Niko's piano lessons cover all aspects of playing the piano such as music theory, aural skills, technique, performance skills, expression, good posture, music composition, and reading music. In addition, students will learn to play many different types of music such as classical, jazz, and pop.
Along with learning the piano, Niko teaches his students about the lives of piano composers like Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, etc. Music appreciation is also a key component to Niko's piano curriculum, and students will learn about different forms of piano music.
Niko also teaches his students other useful musician skills like using a digital piano/keyboard and recording music using a MIDI controller. He also teaches his students about the parts of a piano and how it is tuned and repaired.
Most importantly, Niko teaches his students to have fun and be creative when making music!
Niko's home studio is equipped with a Yamaha U1 upright piano, which is the piano that many music schools and universities use. Also available as part of our curriculum use is a Yamaha keyboard and a MIDI controller.
Niko uses the Piano Adventures curriculum, written by Nancy and Randall Faber. It is a fantastic curriculum that incorporates the important aspects of piano lessons with fun, engaging pieces and activities. Because Niko exclusively uses the Piano Adventures curriculum, he is an official "Piano Adventures Teacher", and he can be found on the Piano Adventures "teacher locator". For more information about the curriculum, please vist their website at www.pianoadventures.com

An Emphasis on Personalization
Niko knows that every student is different. And unlike big music schools that don't have the time to truly get to know their students, Niko has the time and flexibility to do just that. That's why every student of Niko's has a Personalized Learning Plan, or P.L.P. , created just for them. Here's how he does it:
- Niko will get to know all his students on a personal level. He will learn all his students' individual needs and goals such as favorite musical genres and desires as a musician. Using a student's profile, Niko will begin to build their P.L.P. that will closely align with the piano curriculum for their age group.
- Every lesson Niko teaches will be tailored to each student. Two students of the same age could have a completely different P.L.P! Students will also have the opportunity to learn pieces that they enjoy at a reasonable level of difficulty. In addition, students also have the opportunity to help design their P.L.P, and they will have choices in how they can demonstrate their mastery of a topic through activities like performance-based assessments and self-reflections.
- In order for personalized learning to be successful, the parents/guardians must also be frequently updated. That's why Niko will provide a copy of each students' P.L.P. for their parents/guardians. This way, everyone involved in the student's journey as a musician will be well-informed.
- As the student progresses through the piano curriculum, his/her P.L.P. will be updated. Niko will frequently check-in with each student to assess if they are on track and to make sure that they are satisfied with their learning experience and their P.L.P. That's how we are committed to high-quality and individualized learning.
